Hi all,

We're considering adding a function to tag playbills to the site - do you have a favourite interface for this we should look at? I think Flickr and Zooniverse do it quite well, but does it work for everyone?

In addition to the 'add a tag' interface, there's the 'view all items with a particular tag' page to consider too.

I can think of two ways tags might be used - firstly, to help people looking for specific themes in playbills, like https://community.libcrowds.com/d/21-conjurers-and-magicians and https://community.libcrowds.com/d/18-plays-set-at-fairs

Secondly, to let people note down something interesting or unusual about a playbill. I get to see so many interesting comments about performances, works, actors and more but it's harder to share them with everyone else. Tagging could be a lightweight way of letting others know there's something interesting on a playbill.

One thing I really like about this idea is that we could generate a IIIF manifest for each tag. This will help us to provide a browsable album of images for each tag, but also means people could potentially embed those albums on their own websites, blogs etc.

And, for anyone who might be interested, here's the related GitHub issue.

See this topic for further discussion about using IIIF manifests to share these tags.

          a month later

We'd like to test or preview this new function with some active volunteers - get in touch via digitalresearch@bl.uk if you might be able to help out!
